Biography
Dr.Shyam S. Mohapatra is a Distinguished USF Health Professor, Director of the Division of Translational Medicine (Internal Medicine) and Associate Dean of Graduate programs at the College of Pharmacy in the University of South Florida. He also directs the USF Center for Research and Education in Nanobioengineering and is a Research Career Scientist at the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa. He has published over 200 papers and holds over 30 U.S. and foreign patents. He is a Fellow of the AAAAI, NAI, AIMBE and AAAS and a 2014 Inductee of the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame.
Research Interest
His research has focused on biology of inflammation starting with allergic-immunologic inflammation of the lung following exposure to allergens and respiratory syncytial virus infection and potential of biologic/gene-based as therapeutic modalities. Developing novel nanoscale technologies to develop transforming inventions and translate research from the lab benches to in vivo applications in pre-clinical settings and further to human clinical trials has been and continue to be my passion in research. I have always been interested in multi-disciplinary research developing and utilizing cutting-edge technologies in immunology, cell biology, virology, genomics, epigenomics and nanotechnology (tumor-on-a-chip, biosensing and nano-gene-drug delivery, cell-nano delivery) to advance diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in cancers, traumatic brain injury, respiratory syncytial virus, allergy and asthma.
